Some new patterns just published!

I just published two new patterns.

The first is a take off on the Celtic Doggie Stepping Stones Dog sweater pattern. I have gotten so may compliments on this design but not everyone needs a dog sweater. A dishcloth is an easy to complete project and a fun way to practice knitting an Aran cable design.

It can be knit on size 8 or 9 US knitting needles (5 or 5.5 mm) with worsted wt cotton yarn.

The pattern is available on Etsy, Ravelry and Craftsy.

The second pattern is a new doggie sweater in the Celtic Doggie collection. This time I have combined cables and lace for this easy to knit design.

It can be knit on size 8 or 9 US knitting needles (5 or 5.5 mm) with worsted wt yarn.

The pattern is available on Etsy, Ravelry and Craftsy.

Happy knitting, Debby

Historic knitting...1886

Today's post is from a historic needlework staple, The Encyclopedia of Needlework by Therese de Dillmont

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Thérèse de Dillmont (10 October 1846 - 22 May 1890) was an Austrian needleworker and writer, "one of the most important pioneers in the international and multicultural enterprise of hobby needlework in the late nineteenth century".

Dillmont's Encyclopedia of Needlework (1886) has been translated into 17 languages.

I have chosen this round piece to try myself. It can be used a variety of ways...as a washcloth, doily, small bride's purse or the crown of a baby bonnet. Send over a photo of your work if you give this a try!

You can find this resource on ProjectGutenberg and Archive.org. I also see reprints of this book on the shelves at thrift stores.

Scrubbie and dishcloth combo

Summer is a good time for me to replenish my Giftie box. It is a box with little gifts or presents for friends or family when we are invited over. It is always a nice idea to have a 'hostess' gift or a 'thank you' gift when you need one. I fill it with pretty soaps, candles, little bags of lavender from my garden, and...(this is where this post comes in!) dish and wash cloths.

Here are some great, easy to make, patterns to get your stash started!

Easy to crochet Flower Cleansing Pads...free pattern

I found this cute pattern pinned on Lion Brand's Pinterest page.

You can get this pattern from Kara on her Petal to Picots site

This would make a nice giftie with a bar of Yardley soap. Did you know you can find Yardley and Pears soap at Dollar Tree? The lavender soap is just dreamy. I also use Pears soap on my face. It is the only soap that my facial skin is not allergic to.

Enjoy, Debby

I ♥ Dishcloths

I always have some dishcloths on the needles. It is a fun way to try a new stitch and have a giftie (a.k.a. small gift) ready for a non-crafty friend.

Well, I got this newsletter in my email today and I had to share it with you...more cute dishcloths to knit and crochet with Lily Sugar and Cream cotton yarn. I love the new colors they have added to their line. No more dull dishcloths for me!

Here are a few pictures to wet your whistle!

Have fun picking one to start working on!

Enjoy, Debby

More hot weather knitting, free patterns and antique online resource

To continue the topic of hot weather knitting and crocheting, here is an idea from the past: knitted counterpanes. Okay, we don't need to make an entire bedspread but you can do alot with the little pieces that are so easy to knit; pincushions, pillows, baby blankets, dishcloths...you get the idea.

I love the little pillow that Wendy at Vintage Pattern Files made with 8 squares.

She provides the pattern for the Apricot Leaf with Feather Pattern Border here.

This block is a bit more complicated and knit in the round. I could see this in a sport weight yarn as a pretty pillow as well.

The pattern can be found here at knitting-and.com.

If you really want to overdose, check out this online copy of Mrs. George Cupples' A Knitting-Book of Counterpanes from 1871. Download HERE

Love this cable square!
Enjoy, Debby
