Historic knitting pattern: baby booties

Many historic knitting patterns are not for the faint of heart. The directions can be vague and filled with errors. It is always nice if a previous knitter has "translated" the pattern so we can proceed with the actual knitting.

Here is a blog post from Heather on her blog-Doodles. She has posted the directions to knit a pair of baby booties.

Thanks Heather!

Great adaptation of child's sweater from 1916

The latest issue of KNITTY.Com has another great article from Franklin Habit.

This time it is a discussion about the history of Lion Brand and how Frank adapted a vintage pattern to modern materials.

Easy vintage apron projects

Sometimes I am at a garage sale or thrift store and find a pretty vintage pillow case.  JUST ONE. I hunt for the mate but most times, it is long lost. Not to worry, there are still things you can do with just one pillow case. My favorite is to fashion a pretty apron. Plus I feel better about giving a sad orphaned textile a new life...you know...upcycle and repurpose....

Here are some great ideas from the blogosphere to get your creative juices flowing.

What else can we make with pillowcases? More tomorrow...

The Real Sock Monkey instructions

I LOVE sock monkeys. I don't know why...I just do.
To make your own iconic monkey, you will find instructions on TIPNUT or FOXSOX

and if you can't find the socks, go straight to the source: Fox River's website.

They even have pink and green socks or the original colors in a MINI size. TOO CUTE!

My first craft project-a yarn octopus!

I was so excited when I found this vintage pattern. It was my first craft project. It started me down that road of yarn coveting. My stash has been growing ever since!

This pattern is now available in PDF format in my ETSY store.

It would be a great summer project for a girl or boy.

Two patterns-how to use knit and crochet lace in 2012

I love lace but sometimes we need to see a project to see how we can use lace in 2012.

Here is a great summer vest that has a simple crocheted lace trimming. Click here for pattern.

and for knitters, here are some easy to complete bolsters. Click here for pattern.

And for good measure, here is a cute dress for a little girl. Click here for pattern.
All three patterns are from Vickie Howell for Caron. Her patterns are very cute, fresh and easy to complete.
Enjoy!
