Happy Friday: Yarn and Thread selection for Vintage patterns and a Freebie
The hardest thing for me when working with vintage or antique patterns is figuring out which yarn or thread to use. I know that it is all part of the creative process but it would be nice to have some background on mentioned materials.
I found this interesting article that gives some explanations of typical materials that we see mentioned in older patterns. Here is an example:
So check out this site...there are lots of interesting things here for reenactment fans as well.
Have a safe weekend...Irene is coming.
Freebie: Make a silk lamp shade-Ruth Wyeth Spears pattern from 1937

- Andalusian: In between fingering and sport weight (try a four-ply Shetland wool, also
called “jumper weight” by Jamieson and Smith, a modern firm that produces
wool for retail sale.)

Great Creme Brulee recipe
I love to follow the Remodelaholic blog...not just for the great remodeling and repurposing ideas and projects but for the great recipes. Here is one for creme brulee that I will have to try. I don't like messing with a TORCH to make the crunchy top so this one looks like a winner! Have a look and let me know if you try it out.

There are 12 patterns in this pattern book from 1953 (knitted, crocheted and hairpin lace items) but I have set up some of the cutest items as separate patterns.
...like this great little bolero pattern. I need to make one of these. Wouldn't it look lovely for winter bride?

New on ETSY-Aran knitting pattern
I just posted a new pattern on ETSY. It is an original Aran pattern that can be used to make a scarf. I have included a chart as well as written directions. The texture of this pattern is GREAT. You can make it up in three different yarns: fingering wt, sport or worsted weight.
I have been studying different Aran stitches and designed this pattern that reminds me of the stepping stones down through my grandfathers garden in England with the rows of flowers on either side.
Enjoy, Debby
